Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0

What is it?

Shadowrun: Anarchy 2.0 is a rules-light, narrative-focused version of the Shadowrun tabletop RPG, designed to prioritise cinematic storytelling over technical simulation. Unlike the “crunchy” mechanics of the standard Sixth World edition, Anarchy 2.0 uses a streamlined system where gear, magic, and cybernetics are condensed into simplified “Shadow Amps.”

This 2025 release replaces the original edition’s Karma-based progression with a Nuyen economy and introduces standardised mechanics for Risk and Advantage. It is built to facilitate faster combat and less granular preparation while maintaining the core setting of high-tech mercenaries operating in a world of urban fantasy.

It started on Kickstarter and now available in other sites like DriveThruRPG.

Simplified Narrative System

  • A rules-light approach that encourages storytelling and quick decision-making, enhancing the flow of gameplay.
  • Theatre of the Mind: the game focuses more on the narrative than a tactical simulation.
  • Planning: no more planning paralysis sessions, everyone decided how they will contribute and does a test. Hits are collected as a pool to use in retroactive solutions to real-time problems.

Simplified Character Sheet

  • Less Attributes and far less skills, keeps it simpler for everyone to focus more on the story without stripping out too much crunch.
  • ShadowAmps: provides a pointbuy system for special ablities of characters, allowing equipment to be a part of the character (so never lost), or give bonuses where you want them; just explain how that occurs.
  • Nuyen Advancement: karma is removed as Cash is King. The spending of money to pay for improvements means everyone is relying on the same economy, gone or the constantly poor riggers and magicians not caring about cash as they always needing more karma.

Risk Dice

  • Introduces Risk Dice and Advantage/ Disadvantage mechanics.
  • Advantage: Simplifies situational bonuses by allowing players to roll extra dice rather than calculating static math modifiers.
  • Risk Dice: Added to a pool to represent dangerous shortcuts; they can provide extra successes but trigger complications on a “1.”
